Hello, my name is Troy Radermacher and I’m the Accounting Manager at DRN.
Staring on January 1, 2018 the DRN Board of Directors made some exciting changes for our cooperative members. January 1 is the first day that Internet service was added as a patronage allocable service. In the past, your local land line and any other services with the phone such as caller id, call waiting and NDLD long distance services were the only services that qualified for capital credits.
As a refresher, patronage is the dollar amount you spend on local phone and now Internet services for the year. Once the year is over, we calculate the amount you spent on these services to figure out what your stake in ownership is for that given year. As a cooperative member, the more you spend - the more in profits you’ll get allocated back.
Around November of each year, the Board of Directors look at the financial health and future of the company to decide if a payout is feasible. If feasible, the board elects an amount to payout and pays these dollars out. The board pays out capital credits of some of the oldest years outstanding and some of the most current year so we can give back to as many members possible.
Another benefit of making Internet patronage allocable is you don’t have to have a phone line to be a member. Recent changes in the regulatory environment have allowed us to reduce the pricing for internet only services without having a phone line included to get these rates. The three new Internet-only plans are:
150MB down by 50MB up for $74.99 a month.
500MB down by 250MB up for $99.99 a month.
1GIG down by 500MB up for $149.99 a month.
By going Internet only and dropping your phone line you could save $4.53 a month with the base plan or $9.53 a month with the other two plans. We hope your excited about our new offerings and the ability to earn more in capital credits. If you’d like to switch to one of these plans please call 701-344-5000 and we’d be happy to assist you.
