The USDA recommends total daily fiber intake of 14 grams of fiber per 1,000 kcal of food consumption. In simpler terms, that means an adult woman (between the ages of 19-50) should consume 25 grams per day while the average man (between the ages of 19-50) should consume 38 grams per day. Fact is the average adult consumes only about 50% of the recommended daily fiber!
Fiber here at DRN takes on a much different meaning when we think about “Daily Fiber”. Each day our members utilize the investment made by the Cooperative to provide “state of the art” technology, with fiber optic cable being the core to our solid platform. Daily fiber provides you with plain old telephone service (POTS), internet service, and television.
DRN Fiber Optics also provides you with your cellular phone service! That is correct! We work directly with our cellular competitors to provide “fiber to the towers”. Without the DRN fiber optic footprint, your cellular coverage would be very spotty. Most of us can remember a few years back when cell coverage in ND tended to be questionable at best!
By now I am sure you have heard Gov. Doug Burgum announced in March of this year a 100-gigabit upgrade to STAGEnet, the state governments closed broadband network. This upgrade will allow one-gigabit connectivity to all K-12 schools, higher education institutions and government agencies in the state. This advancement is being made possible through a contract extension between the state’s Information Technology Department and Dakota Carrier Network and its 15 owner companies. DRN is one of those noted 15 owner companies of DCN. The contract allows us to complete extensive upgrades to STAGEnet by next fall, which will enable larger amounts of internet traffic to travel over the state’s network at a faster pace.
DRN Fiber plays a key role in this state project. This is also the most recent example of how North Dakota has quietly become a national leader in connectivity by embracing public-private partnerships with entities such as DCN. Visionary.
